Walworth County Short-Term Rental Update
May 1, 2018
In April of this year, the Walworth County Board enacted new ordinances and rules to help govern and manage short-term rentals in Walworth County. These ordinances apply to homes being rented out on a short-term basis for more than 7, but less than 30 days, and only apply to homes located in county townships. Villages and cities such as Fontana and the City of Lake Geneva are not affected by these new rules and these municipalities will enact their own set of rules once approved by their respective Boards.
All homeowners renting their homes out on a short-term basis will now need to apply for a Walworth County Short-Term Rental License and pay the $904 annual fee. This license will be valid from July 1st through June 30th of the following year. All applications received after April 1st of a given year will be valid through June 30th of the following year.
Along with the fee and application, homeowners must submit a few additional items with their applications listed below:
- Site Plan of the property
- Floor Plan of the home
- Copy of Property Rules
- Garbage hauler name and pick-up schedule
- Copy of Wisconsin State Tourist Rooming House License
- Evidence of adequate sanitary facilities
- Owner contact information or contact information of designated operator that is available 24 hours a day
